“City of Emeryville: Arts&Innovation Hub” Concept
Challenge:
The City of Emeryville wanted to redefine its place identity to become known as an "Arts and Innovation" hub in the San Francisco Bay Area. This effort aimed to raise the city's profile, attract visitors, and attract competitive business ventures in fields such as biotechnology. Achieving this required a deep understanding of the city's cultural, historical, and economic landscape, as well as its current reputation and assets. The goal was to create marketing materials and updated copywriting content that would resonate with both residents and potential investors and bring the city's new vision to life.
Placemarketing Research:
The Place Marketing Research began with an exhaustive review of the City of Emeryville's RFP to comprehend their vision, goals, and specific branding requirements. The research included a thorough analysis of Emeryville’s cultural and historical context, economic landscape, competitive business tax rate, and existing assets. Additionally, the research explored Emeryville’s strategic advantages, such as its central location near Silicon Valley and proximity to top-ranked research universities. These findings informed the development of a narrative and copy that positioned Emeryville competitively within the San Francisco Bay Area.
Visual Identity Personal Concept:
The visual graphic aims to highlight Emeryville's unique blend of creativity and technological innovation. It draws inspiration from the iconic multi-color palette of the city's highest-grossing company, Pixar, on an illustration of a street in Emeryville with condos and the Golden Gate Bridge in the backdrop.
